Ifá Consultation

What is Ifá Consultation?

Ifá consultation is a traditional Yoruba spiritual practice used to seek guidance, insight, or solutions to personal, communal, or spiritual issues. It involves divination performed by a Babalawo (male priest) or Iyanifa (female priest), who communicates with Orunmila, the deity of wisdom and knowledge in Yoruba cosmology.

Ifá consultation means:

A spiritual process where a priest uses sacred tools to discover messages from the divine about your life, and gives advice on what to do.

4

Receive divine guidance and clarity for life’s journey through authentic Ifá divination.

3

A sacred pattern called an Odu Ifá is revealed.

5

You may be given:
•Advice on what to do or avoid
•Ebo (spiritual offering or ritual) to fix a problem or prevent danger.

What is Èbò?

In Ifá, the word Èbò (also spelled Ebo) means a spiritual offering or sacrifice made to bring balance, protection, healing, or alignment with your destiny.

Èbò is a ritual action prescribed during an Ifá consultation to:

•Prevent misfortune
•Remove spiritual blockages
•Restore harmony between a person and their destiny (Ori)
•Give thanks to the Orishas (divine forces)
•Manifest blessings (like health, success, fertility, or protection)

What Can Be Used in Ebo?

The specific contents of an Ebo depend on the Odu Ifá revealed during consultation, but they may include:

•Food items (like yams, corn, and palm oil)
•Animals (like chickens, goats — used respectfully in traditional practice)
•Natural elements (like honey, kola nut, salt, herbs, water)
•Money or symbolic items
•Prayers, chants, and ritual acts

Èbò is important in Ifá because it restores spiritual balance, removes negative influences, and aligns a person with their destiny. It serves as a way to prevent misfortune, attract blessings, and maintain harmony with the divine and ancestral forces.
